Earlier, South Africa batted first and posted 189/4 with fifties from Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp. For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Nonkululeko Mlaba took one wicket each. This was South Africa's first win on this tour after losing the ODI series and the only Test match.
South Africa women's team beat Indian women's team by 12 runs in the first T20I 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, July 5. Chasing 190 to win, India got off to a flying start with the opening partnership of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, yielding 56 runs in 5.1 overs. But South Africa bounced back, with Ayabonga Khaka dismissing Verma (18) and later, Chloe Tyron accounting for Smriti Mandhana (46). Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur then took over the run chase for the Indian women's national cricket team but failed to get past the finish line. Rodrigues smashed a half-century off just 29 balls and her partnership with Kaur kept India in the hunt till the last over but 21 runs were too many needed for India off the final six balls. With this, South Africa gained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series
