After the scoreline was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time, Thomas Tuchel's side secured the victory through penalties. Mason Mount missed one penalty for Chelsea but that did not impact the result. Kai Havertz and Che Adams scored for Chelsea and Southampton in the match.
Chelsea made it to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup 2021-22 with a win on penalties over fellow Premier League club Southampton at the Stamford Bridge.
