King Charles III has officially approved an extra bank holiday for Scotland on Monday, 15 June 2026. The Royal Proclamation follows a request from First Minister John Swinney to celebrate Scotland's men's national football team’s historic return to the FIFA World Cup. The 2026 editions mark Scotland's first appearance at the tournament in 28 years, ending a drought that began after the 1998 finals in France. The holiday is scheduled for the day following Scotland’s opening FIFA World Cup 2026 against Haiti in Boston. FIFA World Cup 2026: Lionel Messi-Led Argentina to Set Base in Kansas City.
