X, formerly known as Twitter, has begun testing a $1-per-year membership charge for new users who want to use the platform to interact with other users, claiming that the policy has the ability to minimise spam, automated bot accounts, and manipulation of its service. The test, dubbed as "Not a Bot," was launched in New Zealand and the Philippines on Tuesday, October 17, according to reports.
