Making his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut, former South African star AB de Villiers scored 24 off 17 balls in his first match of the league. Playing for Lahore Qalandars, de Villiers came out to bat number three after openers Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar shared an impressive 97-run stand for the first wicket. The right-handed batsman after smashing Hussain Talat for two fours, clubbed a length ball over over deep mid-wicket to earn his first six of the league. However, few overs later de Villiers was caught near long-off boundary as Phillip Salt took a great catch off Waqas Maqsood. At de Villiers' fall of wicket, Lahore Qalandars were 137 for three.

Despite the flying opening stand, Lahore Qalandars lost too many wickets in the middle and managed to post 171 for right on board in their allotted 20 overs. In last six overs, Lahore Qalandars lost six wickets for just 41 runs. Opener Zaman was top-scorer for his side with 43-ball 65. The left-handed batsman smashed fours sixes and three fours. For Islamabad United, Faheem Ashraf picked two wickets while captain Mohammad Sami, Maqsood, Shadab Khan and Cameron Delport chipped in with a wicket each. Both Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars have new captains this season. While Sami is in charge of defying champions, Mohammad Hafeez is leading Lahore Qalandars.
