The former Bengaluru Blasters batsman M Vishwanathan was arrested by the state police for the allegations of spot-fixing during Karnataka Premier League 2018. The opening batsman of the Bengaluru Blasters was asked by the bookies to underperform as reported by Indian Express during the match against Hubli Tigers. The report by the newspaper further stated Vishwanathan as a signal of an agreement to the bookies changed his bat and folded his sleeves during the game. The opening batsman scored 10 runs from 20 balls. Along with Vishwanathan, Vinu Prasad- the bowling coach of Hubli Tigers was also arrested on the charges of receiving rupees five lakh in the match which was held on August 31, 2018, in Mysore. The two were dragged into the case of spot-fixing by a Chandigarh based bookie named Manoj Kumar aka Monty. It was Nishant Singh Shekhawat from Shimoga Lions who introduced him to Prasad said the initial report. The plan of fixing and underperforming in the game happened a week ago ahead of the game in the hotel lobby of east Bengaluru. It was a day ahead of the game that Vishwanathan told Prasad about the deal and his participation would be signalled as the change of bat and folding of sleeves.
“The change of bat and the lifting of the sleeves were pre-determined signals that had been agreed upon by the bookies and the player. Multiple bookies were involved in the fixing incidents and the names of several bookies have come up and they are being investigated,” said the police sources. Earlier the police had arrested
