Dale Steyn surpassed Shaun Pollock’s record of claiming most number of wickets for South Africa in Test cricket, on Wednesday. Steyn took his 422nd wicket in Test cricket while playing against Pakistan in the first Test match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The record was held by Shaun Pollock, who had taken 421 wickets in his career.
The right-handed fast bowler achieved the record-breaking feat in the seventh over, after he dismissed Fakhar Zaman. While picking his 422nd wicket, Dale Steyn broke the record which stood for over a decade.
Dale Steyn has 422 wickets in his 15-year career so far. It took him 89 Test matches to become the most wicket-taking bowler for South Africa. Now, the 35-year-old would be eyeing Sir Richard Hadlee’s record of 431 wickets.
