Ashwin walked out to bat amid loud cheers from the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed KL Rahul and played some fine shots to shift the momentum in India's favour. India were rocked early in the first session on Day 1 with them losing three wickets, the likes of which included that of captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. But after the big guns departed for low scores, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal joined forces and stitched a 62-run stand, which brought a bit of stability in the Indian innings. But Rishabh Pant's departure at the start of the second session once again derailed India's momentum before Yashasvi Jaiswal forged a 48-run partnership with KL Rahul. India headed into tea on Day 1 with the scoreline reading 176/6. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, two of the most experienced members of the Indian cricket team, have joined forces and they will hope to take the team to a position of control with a good partnership. A lot of the spotlight would be on the local boy Ashwin, who looked confident in his time out at the crease.
