India vs Windies 1st ODI 2018: Rishabh Pant Receives Cap From MS Dhoni on His ODI Debut

At the start of the first One-Day International between India and West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was handed his ODI cap by none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The senior wicketkeeper-batsman and former India captain gave the cap to the Pant in presence of other teammates. With it, Pant has now represented India across each formats. He made his T20I in 2017 against England and recently in England was handed the Test debut. Pant is known for his aggressive style of play and that could help India’s batting woes in the middle-order. With Dhoni still around, it will be tough for Pant to cement his place in the ODI side.

Meanwhile, in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Windies, Pant scored 184 runs in two innings he got an opportunity to bat. He apparently averaged 92. In the opening ODI, India left out spinner Kuldeep Yadav and have added Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal. In pace bowling department, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav will share the responsibility with Khaleel Ahmed. At the time of filing this report, Windies batting first had lost the wicket of Chandrapaul Hemraj with Kieron Powell and Shai Hope at the crease.
