Yesterday, it was Kane Williamson who led New Zealand to win the CWC 2019 tie against South Africa by four wickets. The New Zealand captain scored 106 runs from 138 balls and led the team to a four-wicket victory against South Africa. However, the NZ skipper has landed himself in hot waters and was slammed by the netizens for not walking off from the field after getting an edge and handed it straight to Quinton de Kock. This reminds of Virat Kohli's dismissal during India vs Pakistan where we where the Indian captain did not wait for the umpires to be adjudged out, unlike the NZ skipper. So here’s what happened. NZ beat SA by 4 wickets.

It was when Kane Williamson was batting on 73 and Imran Tahir was handling the bowling duties. The NZ skipper got a slight edge at the bottom of the bat and he handed it straight to Quinton de Kock. The appeal was turned down by the umpire and the South Africans did not go for a review as they too were unsure if the ball had been edged. But the replays had a different story to narrate and showed that the ball had hit the bottom end of the bat. This did not go down well with the netizens as they said that the NZ skipper should have walked off the ground after the dismissal and shouldn’t have waited for the umpire’s decision. ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Points Table Updated: New Zealand Jumps to Top Spot After Win Over South Africa in CWC 2019 Round-Robin Match.

The social media users posted several tweets and blasted at Williamson for the same. Check out a few tweets below:

Williamson’s smile said it all.

Here’s the replay.

Another one.

Last one.

After the match, Faf du Plessis spoke about the incident and said that the team did not go for a review as Quinton de Kock was not sure if he heard an edge and the captain went by the keeper’s word. With this loss, it is curtains down virtually for South Africa in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
