Railways have scripted history by defeating Mumbai for the first very first time in Ranji Trophy history. They dominated the majority of the match and went on to register a victory by 10 wickets. It was none other than Skipper Karn Sharma who led his side from the front and put up a brilliant batting performance. The all-rounder scored a magnificent century in the second innings of the match which went on to decide the fate of the clash. The triumph was also significant as it was Railways’ first even win over Mumbai since the inception of the Indian First-Class tournament in 1934. Ranji Trophy 2019-20, Round 3: Ishant Sharma, Simarjeet Singh Put Delhi in Command Against Hyderabad.

Speaking of the match, Railways won the toss and surprisingly elected to bowl on the Wankhade wicket. The decision, however, proved out to be impeccable as the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed for low scores. Pacer Pradeep did the maximum damage as he took six wickets and Mumbai were bundled out for 114 runs. In reply, Karn Sharma scored a ton and helped Railway post 266 in second innings.

Mumbai tried to make a fightback but could only manage 198 runs in their second innings and later Railway chased the target of 47 runs without losing a single wicket. The match will certainly go down as one of the biggest upsets in the Ranji Trophy history and Mumbai will want to make a quick bounce back. On the other hand, Karn Sharma and Co will like to put the foot on the paddle to extend their winning run.
