Indian women cricket team defeated the Sri Lankan team in the first One Day International (ODI), on Wednesday. The women team won the match comprehensively, as they beat the Lankan team by 9 wickets and 30 overs to spare. Star India players, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, achieved milestones with the culmination of the match.

India captain Mithali Raj set a record of captaining the most number of matches in Women’s ODI cricket. The first ODI was Mithali’s 118th match as a captain. She went past England’s Charlotte Edwards who held the record previously with 117 ODI games as a captain.

In all the 118 matches that she has captained the Indian team, Mithali Raj has a stupendous captaincy record. She has led the Indian team to victory in 72 matches, lost in 43, and three matches have ended as no-result.

On the other hand, veteran Jhulan Goswami became the first women cricketer to pick up 300 international wickets. She picked up two wickets in the match, and it was Nipuni Hansika who became her 300th wicket. Goswami ended the match with figures of 8-1-13-2 and currently has 301 international wickets.

Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) posted the achievements of Indian women cricketers, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, on their Twitter account. The message read, “It's a special win for India Women against Sri Lanka in the first ODI.@JhulanG10 became the first woman to take 300 international wickets and @M_Raj03 became the most capped captain in women's ODIs. Today she led India for the 118th time!”

Jhulan Goswami had recently announced her retirement from the T20I format. So far, she has 40 Test, 2015 ODI, and 56 T20I wickets against her name.
