MS Dhoni – remember the name! One simply cannot keep the charismatic character that he is, out of the game for long. A day, after he was dropped from India’s T20I squads which will play against West Indies and Australia, the 37-year-old cricketer rolled the clock 10 years back, when he dived to help India scalp the first Windies wicket.
All seemed going smoothly for West Indies till the fifth over of the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were kept at bay in the first half-hour. However, on the fifth ball of the sixth over, the crowd went pin-drop silence for a moment before exhilarating into huge applause to see the former captain dive full stretch to send Chanderpaul Hemraj packing.
Here’s what happened: Jasprit Bumrah bowled a bouncer, the bowl jumped on Hemraj who looked to hit the pull shot. Unfortunately, he couldn’t time the ball properly and the shot went high in the air. Enter MS Dhoni. As soon as the ball lobbed up in the air, Dhoni started cantering towards the square-leg boundary. And soon as the ball dipped, the former Indian captain dived full length to dismiss the Windies opener.

A day before, the Indian team selectors had dropped MS Dhoni from India’s T20I squads, which would be competing against West Indies (after the culmination of IND-WI ODI Series), and against Australia (early next year after India completes it Test series).
People on social media platforms, be it Twitter or Facebook went ballistic and mocked the team selectors hilariously for their selection choices. On close observation, one can say that they haven’ seen MS Dhoni dive with such ferocity in recent times; however, the full-length diving catch was perhaps a signal to the selectors of what MS Dhoni, the phenomena, is all about!
