With his blistering performances in the domestic and the Under-19 circuit, Prithvi Shaw had already made enough noise and grabbed headlines. The youngster carried his form even in international cricket by scoring a century in his debut against West Indies at the Saurashtra Cricket Association, Rajkot. The Mumbai batsman had made way into the squad in place of Shikhar Dhawan and walked in to bat as an opener with KL Rahul. The two brought in the partnership of 206 runs for the side, with Shaw scoring a 134 and Pujara putting up 86 runs on the board. Shaw’s 100 came from 99 balls and with this, the 18-year-old shattered several records and lived up to the expectations of the selectors and the captain.   • Prithvi Shaw became the youngest and the first Indian teenager to face the first ball of a Test.
  • Shaw became the 15th Indian batsman to score a 100 in debut.
  • The Mumbai batsman who is 18 years and 329 days old became the second youngest to be the opener for India on Test debut. Vijay Mehra was the youngest test opener India had. Mehra was 17 years and 265 days.
  • Shaw happens to be the first Indian teenager to hit a fifty on the test debut.
  • The opener is the fourth youngest player of all time to get a debut 100.
  • Prithvi is the second youngest Indian after master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. The master blaster was 17 years and 112 days old when he first hit a century against England at the Old Trafford in 1990.
  • The right-hander took 56 balls to reach 50 runs and thus became the fourth fastest player to get a half-century. Yuvraj Singh tops the list as he took 42 balls to reach the milestone.
  • The Mumbai lad also became the third-fastest 100 getter. Shikhar Dhawan scored a century off 85 balls against Australia in Mohali in 2012-13. Whereas Dwayne Smith made a 100 off 93 deliveries on his debut.
  • Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad and Mushtaq Mohammad were the only ones to score more than fifty runs at the age of 17. Thus Shaw becomes the third youngest player of all time to get more than 50 runs.
  • The right-hander is the youngest Indian batsman to get more than 50 runs. Ravi Shashtri held the record for scoring more than 50 runs at the age of 19 years 210 days.
  • Shaw is the seventh youngest to get to a century in Tests.
  • Only a couple of players had scored centuries on their first-class debuts and international cricket. India's Gundappa Viswanath and Australia's Dirk Wellham had achieved this feat.
  • Shaw, who played 14 first-class matches had a staggering average of 56.72 and has already hit seven centuries in 26 innings.     With these numerous achievements, it was obvious that the youngster garnered several words of praises from cricketing stalwarts including Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Harsha Bhogle and many others. However, Shaw got caught and bowl on the delivery of Devendra Bishoo.
