Shashank Singh's Vehement Denial
Shashank Singh, who represents Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, has strongly denied all charges. In his public statement today, he alleged that the FIR was a 'false' attempt to extort money and tarnish his reputation.
Singh claimed that Tomar had not entered their home with honest intentions. He further revealed that police records indicated Tomar had an extensive criminal history, including nine previous FIRs registered against him, with chargesheets filed in eight cases. These charges reportedly included attempted murder, house theft, assault, house trespass, extortion by causing injury, criminal intimidation, obscene acts, and offenses under the SC/ST Act. Singh also alleged that Tomar used three different names to conceal his identity.
Singh recounted that the family discovered Tomar was recording videos and taking photos inside their private residence without permission, leading to suspicions of ulterior motives, including theft. He asserted that physical altercation is not in his nature and that his family did not hold Tomar hostage or subject him to violence.
The Allegations
The controversy began late last month when 31-year-old Vipendra Singh Tomar, a native of Rewa district, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Ratibad Police Station in Bhopal. Tomar, who had reportedly joined the Singh family's residence in Mendori village, Bhopal, on June 25, 2026, accused Shashank Singh, his retired IPS officer father Shailesh Singh, and their driver Mishra of assault, verbal abuse, and wrongful confinement.
According to Tomar's complaint, he faced mental harassment and verbal abuse soon after joining. When he expressed a desire to quit, his mobile phone was allegedly confiscated. Tomar claimed he locked himself in a room for safety, but the father-son duo, along with the driver, forced the door open and physically assaulted him. A subsequent medical examination reportedly confirmed visible injury marks on Tomar's face and body. Tomar also alleged that ₹1,000 was transferred from his mobile phone, with the accused citing it as deduction for food and accommodation expenses.
Ongoing Investigation
The Ratibad Police have registered the FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 296 (obscene acts and uttering obscene words), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 3(5) (joint criminal liability). The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing, and no arrests have been announced as of yet.
As the police continue their probe, the cricketing world and the public await further developments in this unfolding and contentious case, with both sides presenting vastly different accounts of the incident.
