Indian pacer Vinay Kumar has added a prestigious feather to his cap as he became the highest wicket-taking fast bowler in the Ranji Trophy. The right-arm pacer achieved the feat during the Mizoram's innings and 227 runs victory against Puducherry where he dismissed Pratik Desai and achieved the feat. He surpassed Rajasthan bowler Pankaj Singh to become the leading wicket-taking pacer in the tournament. Vinay now has 412 wickets to his name in the tournament while his contemporary Pankaj Singh has 409 wickets. In the list of over-all highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy, Vinay has, now, advanced to the seventh position with Rajinder Goel being at the top with 637 wickets. Vinay Kumar Joins Elite Club of Bowlers Taking 400 Wickets in Ranji Trophy Competition.

At the start of the match, the veteran bowler needed four wickets to get past the tally of Pankaj Singh. He certainly gave the Mizoram batsman a tough time on the field and bowled a brilliant spell in both the innings of the match. He took three wickets apiece in both the innings and achieved the feat with his first wicket of the second innings.

The 35-year old is certainly one of the best pacers ever in the history of the Indian First-class tournament and has guided his side to many victories. Before moving to Puducherry earlier this year, Kumar represented Karnataka and has played a crucial role in guiding his side to new heights.

Speaking of the match between Mizoram and Puducherry, Kumar and Sagar Udeshi wreaked havoc in the first innings of the match as Mizoram were bundled out for mere 73 runs. In reply, Puducherry made 458 runs and completely took the match away. As a result, the Puducherry team registered a thumping victory by an innings and 272 runs.
