A moment of playful banter turned costly for Sri Lanka's Niroshan Dickwella on the final day of the 1st Test against India at Galle International Stadium today, August 19, 2026. The wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed for a paltry 12 runs, just after engaging in a light-hearted exchange with India's young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had subtly goaded him to hit a boundary for a potential IPL berth. History Made! The incident unfolded in the first session as Sri Lanka fought to save the Test, chasing a formidable target of 372. Dickwella, coming in after the dismissal of skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, was attempting to build a resistant partnership. From his fielding position at square leg, Yashasvi Jaiswal chirped at Dickwella, challenging him to replicate his attacking shots from the first innings.

"Come on yaar, there was a lot of shots in first innings. We need to see something, come on," Jaiswal was heard saying, urging Dickwella to hit towards deep square leg. Dickwella's reply, with a smile, was priceless: "No requirement. Take me (to) IPL, then I'll hit."

Jaiswal, quick-witted, retorted, "We will, we will. 100%. Come on, hit him a six, I'll take you to the IPL," to which Dickwella simply responded, "Thank you." However, the laughter was short-lived for the Sri Lankan. In the very same over, bowled by Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna, Dickwella attempted an aggressive slash at a short delivery, only to feather an edge through to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
