President of Portugal Rebelo de Sousa who is on an official visit to the US for the NATO Summit met Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday. The casual conversation ended the Portugal president highlighting the cultural differences between both nations. Rebelo asked him if he has any comments on the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup and asked him to also mention about Portugal as they are still contending for the World Cup.

"Don't forget that Portugal has the best player in the world who is called Cristiano Ronaldo," Rebelo de Sousa told Trump in the White House.  The US President immediately recognized that Trump recognised that Portugal indeed was "doing very well" and asked his counterpart "how good a player" Ronaldo was. Portugal President immediately said, “The best player in the world.” Trump had a question for de Dousa and offered a hypothetical situation saying, “So will Cristiano ever run for President against you?” and was quick enough to add that, "Cristiano wouldn't win, you know he won't". Then came the least expected reply from Rebelo de Sousa wherein he replied. “President, you know -- you know something -- I must tell you, Portugal is not like the US. It's a little different." Portugal recently played against Iran and the team drew the match by 1-1. It was Ricardo Quaresma who scored a goal for the team. “I think we did very well, we have achieved our goal and now we have to recover and think about the next match. We know the difficulties we'll face, they're a big team with very good players,” he said. Portugal will next face Uruguay on Saturday. “We know the difficulties we’re going to have against Uruguay. They are a big team with very big players, but the most important thing now is for us to recover and to get ready for Uruguay.”
