The Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, unfortunately has to quit during 4th round against his match with Swiss 23rd seed Stan Wawrinka in US Open, 2019. Djokovic has to retired following an injury in his shoulder. He recived treatment at the start of 3rd set, however the pain was so severe that he had no option but to discontinue. The 2016 champion Wawrinka led Djokovic by 6-4, 7-5, 2-1 when the World No 1 tennis star decided to walk out. Stan Wawrinka wasn't happy with way the match ended as he admitted in the post match interview that “It’s never the way you want to finish a match. I’m sorry for Novak. He’s an amazing champion,” Djokovic has won four out of the last 5 Grand Slam events and 16 overall.

Djokovic has also faced issue with his left shoulder during his 2nd Round match against Juan Ignacio Londero in US Open 2019. He siad in an interview at press conference after the match that he almost felt pain-free during his 3rd round match against Denis Kudla. However, the the pain in his shoulder erupted again during his match with Stan Wawrinka in Round 16.

Djokovic entered this match with 19-5 winn-loss head to head record against Wawrinka. This was their first meeting since US Open 2016 final which Stan Wawrinka won. Djokovic never seem comfortable in his shot after the 2nd set. He managed to lead 3-0 and 4-1 in the second set, but that was just about all he had in him. Djokovic was out of sorts on all manner of shots, accumulating 30 unforced errors.
