Amazon plans to expand its quick-commerce service, Amazon Now, to more than 300 Indian cities, aiming to build the country's largest ultra-fast delivery network. Amazon is set to build India's largest "delivery in minutes" network as it rapidly scales its ultra-fast service, Amazon Now, to over 300 cities across the country. The expansion follows a period of significant growth for the service, which the company reports as the fastest-growing e-commerce business unit in its Indian history, with order volumes doubling each quarter since its inception.
The company plans to scale its specialised network of urban and micro-fulfilment centres to support this quick-commerce push. For larger orders, Amazon is simultaneously adjusting its logistics infrastructure to offer a wider selection of over one million products for same-day delivery, four million for next-day delivery, and expanded options under its Prime shipping programme.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Visit and Strategic Commitments
During his visit to India, CEO Andy Jassy met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss Amazon's long-term commitments to the state, which hosts key infrastructure such as AWS's first India region and significant technology and operations hubs. Coinciding with the expansion, Amazon announced the launch of "Sammaan," a welfare programme dedicated to supporting its delivery associates. A portion of the company's recently announced $300 million investment into operations and associate well-being will be directed toward strengthening this initiative, which includes upgraded health and life insurance as well as educational scholarships for associates' children.
