Claude Enters Google Workspace: AI Chatbot Can Now Edit Docs, Build Sheets and Create Slides
Anthropic has launched Claude for Google Workspace in public beta, letting paid users read, edit and create files in Docs, Sheets and Slides from a sidebar without switching tabs.
Anthropic, the AI company led by CEO Dario Amodei, has made its Claude chatbot available directly inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, so users can read, edit and create files without constantly jumping between Claude and another browser tab. The new Claude for Google Workspace add-on is now live in public beta for users on all paid Claude plans. Announcing the rollout on X, the company said Claude sits in a sidebar next to the open file, reads what is on screen and edits it in place, while users can approve each edit before it lands.

Users can install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Once installed, it can be opened from Extensions > Claude > Open Claude. The sidebar understands the document, spreadsheet or presentation that is open, and it can also see the text, cells or slides the user has selected. In Google Docs, Claude can fix a sentence, rewrite a section or change a heading while keeping the surrounding formatting intact. For bigger changes, it shows suggested edits in the sidebar, and users can approve or reject them.

In Google Slides, Claude can create new slides using the existing presentation's layouts and themes. It can also check a deck for problems such as overlapping elements, text running outside the slide or content that is difficult to read.
Users Stay In Control Of AI Edits
By default, Claude runs in an 'Ask before edits' mode, where every change appears as an approval card that users can review before applying. For those who want Claude to finish a task without stopping, there is also an 'Accept all edits' mode.
