Tokyo, July 11: Japan has recorded a new high internet speed, faster than any other country in the world. Japan achieved 16 million times faster internet speed than India and 3.5 million times faster than the US. Japanese researchers used novel 19-core optical fibre to reach to a groundbreaking internet speed of 1.02 petabits per second. The country has showcased its powerful technical prowess and infrastructure capabilities with this success.

In India, the average internet speed ranges between 60 and 100 Mbps, while in the United States, it is three times, reaching 200 to 300 Mbps with fixed broadband. Typically, the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and Singapore were known for having faster internet speeds than other countries. As per a website page by Panda Security, Singapore has the highest internet speed of 368.50 Mbps, and the UAE has 318.63 Mbps. The other countries in the lines were Hong Kong, France, and Iceland, which had 312.60 Mbps, 308.01 Mbps, and 306.22 Mbps speeds, respectively. Gautam Adani Urges Entrepreneurs To Build India’s 1st AI-Powered Spinal Diagnostic Platform To Tackle Back Pain Crisis During SMISS-AP 2025.

Japan's Highest Internet Speed: All You Need To Know

Japan achieved 1.02 petabits of internet speed, nearly 1,000 terabits or 125 terabytes (TB). , which is much higher than any other internet available in the world. In May 2025, it was reported that Japan had achieved a 1 million GB per second speed over 1,100 miles using optical fibre cable, as reported by Interesting Engineering

With this speed, the users can download an entire library on Netflix within fractions of a second and load 4K or 8K videos without facing any buffering issues. Japan’s NICT Photonic Network Laboratory, working with Sumitomo Electric and European partners, achieved a major tech breakthrough. They built the world’s fastest network, transmitting data over 1,808 km per second through a special 19-core fibre optic cable for high-speed transfer. Grok Down? xAI Chatbot Faces Outage, Users Report ‘Model Not Found’ and ‘Unable To Finish Replying’.

According to a report, the 1.02 petabits internet speed achieved by Japan could download the entire English Wikipedia 10,000 times within just one second. Wikipedia in English was around 100 GB in size, as per a Gagadget cited by an NDTV report
