The restructuring includes a notable change in the company's studio composition. Four studios are set to depart Xbox management, with some returning to independent operation. Compulsion Games and Double Fine Productions will transition to independent status, retaining their intellectual property and current project catalogs. Meanwhile, Ninja Theory and Undead Labs have entered terms to join new ownership, which includes funding to support the development of their respective titles.
In France, the management of Arkane is beginning a consultation process with its Works Council to evaluate potential strategic options. Despite these shifts, the company has confirmed that none of its first-party publicly announced games or projects are being cancelled as part of these staff reductions.
Beyond personnel changes, Xbox is implementing a significant reduction in organisational complexity. The company intends to flatten its hierarchy, capping management layers at five, or ideally three, to improve accountability.
