Nothing has officially announced its latest operating system, Nothing OS 5.0, built on top of Android 17 and packing over 80 major changes across system design, personalisation, performance, and artificial intelligence integration. The software introduces a comprehensive visual overhaul alongside deeper customisation options and advanced productivity tools.
The Open Beta programme officially begins on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at 3:30 PM IST, with the Nothing Phone (3) serving as the first device to receive the update. Subsequent beta builds will roll out in stages for other compatible models through January, while older legacy devices including the Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of their software support lifecycle. Nothing OS 5.0 Design and Personalisation
The update introduces a redesigned home screen theme that pulls its color palette straight from the active wallpaper. App icons receive subtle tints, while widgets and search bars incorporate transparent detailing to create a sense of depth. The system transitions to the Geist typeface, bringing unified blur effects, consistent corner curves, and cleaner typography to Settings, Camera, and Gallery.
Lock screen customisation is expanded with two new clock faces named Gooey and Micrographics, alongside functional widgets like Collector and Away Time, which tracks phone-free hours to aid digital well-being. Furthermore, the Glyph Interface now features a dedicated application consolidating sounds, ringtones, and lighting schedules.
Nothing OS 5.0 AI Features and Android 17 Upgrades
Essential AI capabilities receive substantial upgrades, featuring faster and cleaner transcriptions via Essential Voice, along with SuperMic recording support through the Ear (3) case.
