Mumbai, August 24: ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon's south pole on Wednesday, making India the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the lunar surface after the US, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union. Parties and prayers were held with great fervour across the country ahead of the historic Chandrayaan 3 lunar touchdown. ISRO live telecasted the Chandrayaan 3 landing event on its website and YouTube channel. The momentous achievement by India drew in a staggering audience of over 8 million viewers on the YouTube livestream.

As per social media accounts, the live stream shattered all existing records for live viewership on any YouTube channel globally. The previous record, attributed to YouTuber Casimiro, stood at 6.5 million viewers during the Brazil vs Croatia quarterfinal match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Firstpost reported that more than 5.6 million viewers watched the Chandrayaan-3 soft landing live stream on ISRO’s official YouTube channel at 5:53 PM IST. Launched on July 14, the Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully performed a soft landing on the Moon's surface at 6:04 pm on Wednesday. The "20 minutes of terror" began at 5:47 pm when the lander Vikram - with the Pragyan rover that will operate on the lunar surface for 14 days - began the touchdown process.
