Social media platform X has announced the launch of the Original Content Rewards Program, a new monetisation framework designed to financially reward creators who contribute original expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary. The initiative marks a significant structural shift in how the platform compensates its creator community.
As per a post by X, the platform is phasing out its traditional Creator Revenue Sharing model, halting new enrollments immediately. Existing participants will continue to earn under the legacy system through September 7, 2026, before transitioning to the new rewards scheme. X Original Program Eligibility and Earning Structure
To qualify for the Original Content Rewards Program, creators must maintain an active subscription to X Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business, possess at least 500 verified followers, and accumulate a minimum of 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over a trailing 90-day period. Eligible accounts must also remain in good standing with platform policies.
Earnings under the new model are calculated based on qualified impressions generated from original content viewed by Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline feed. Payouts will be distributed bi-weekly, with the first payment cycle for the new program scheduled for late August 2026.
Defining Original Content and Compliance
The platform has established strict criteria to determine what constitutes eligible original material, explicitly excluding duplicated media, unedited re-uploads, and content featuring active Community Notes. Creators incorporating third-party material must provide substantial commentary, analysis, or creative transformation to qualify.
X will conduct regular compliance reviews to maintain ecosystem integrity. Accounts found utilizing automated bots, artificial engagement tactics, or soliciting likes and reposts face potential disqualification and permanent removal from the monetisation initiative.
