A man in the United Kingdom has pleaded guilty to 60 offences against his wife, including rape, after admitting that he drugged and s*xually assaulted her without her knowledge over a period of more than two decades. The offences were allegedly committed between 2004 and 2025.
The husband, who is in his sixties and lives in the Stockport area of Greater Manchester, cannot be named to protect the survivor's legal right to anonymity. He appeared before a judge at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, where he repeatedly said "guilty" as dozens of charges were put to him.
According to a BBC report, the survivor was present in the public gallery during the hearing and was supported by members of her family. The accused reportedly became visibly emotional while entering his guilty pleas to charges including multiple counts of rape, assault by penetration and administering a substance with intent. Following the guilty pleas, Greater Manchester Assistant Chief Constable Rick Jackson said police would continue to focus on supporting the survivor as investigators deal with what he described as a complex case.
"Specialist support continues to be provided to the victim at the centre of this case," Jackson was quoted as saying by The Irish Times. He added that people affected by suspected drug-facilitated s*xual abuse do not need proof, certainty or a clear memory to be taken seriously. The man had also previously admitted to sharing intimate photographs or films of his wife without her consent for s*xual gratification.
Meanwhile, 12 co-defendants facing allegations involving the same woman have denied all charges against them. The co-defendants, aged between 28 and 74, have been identified as Philip Wild (58), Sean Peers (38), Jordan Wallace (31), Alan Keelan (42), Jonathan Kirk (43), Robert Stewart (70), Mohammed Sabir (28), Graham Brougham (74), Richard Townsend (37), Karl Lindsay (55), Daniel Rayner (42), and David Graves (59).
A 13th man had previously admitted committing s*xual offences against the same woman.
The trial involving the 12 co-defendants is scheduled to continue in the coming weeks. The husband will be sentenced for the offences to which he has pleaded guilty at the conclusion of the trial.
