Following the discovery, Wells’ family members shared statements on social media mourning the loss of the teenager and confirming his passing. Wells vanished on Saturday, July 4, during a holiday trip to Horn Island, a popular destination located off the coast of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Authorities reported that Wells had traveled to the barrier island by boat alongside a group of friends.
He was last seen on the island at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Saturday wearing black shorts and sunglasses. It remains unclear to investigators whether Wells ever attempted to return to the mainland or if he entered the water from the island itself.
The disappearance prompted a massive search and rescue operation over the weekend involving local law enforcement and volunteer organizations, including the United Cajun Navy. Officials had previously urged anyone who spent the holiday weekend on the water near Horn Island to come forward with any potential information. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has not yet released further details regarding the exact circumstances surrounding Wells' death. The investigation remains open pending the final autopsy and forensic findings.
