Ohio Parents of 16 Rescued Children Accused of Engaging in S*xual Conduct With Minor

The parents of 16 children rescued from a Vinton County "House of Horrors" in Ohio earlier this year are now facing additional charges in a separate child abuse case, state officials announced. Elizabeth Siders, 33, and Gary Siders II, 36, were indicted by a grand jury on multiple counts following an investigation into allegations that began late last year. The latest legal developments expand the scope of an ongoing prosecution that drew national attention following the discovery of the children living in severely neglected conditions.
Investigation and Indictments
According to Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson, the couple allegedly "engaged in s*xual conduct with a minor more than 10 years younger than their own age", reports Ohio Attorney General. The state release stated that the victim was not a member of the couple’s immediate family, with the alleged incidents taking place between January and September 2022. However, Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer noted in a separate statement that the "child s*x abuse case involves intrafamily relations." Sheriff Ryan Cain stated that the investigation initially launched in December 2025 after authorities received "allegations of s*xual abuse involving two children." A second inquiry into unlawful s*xual conduct was opened in March. Deputies initially uncovered the 16 children living in squalor while executing a warrant for Gary Siders' DNA in connection with the abuse case.
Child Endangerment Case and Arrests
Elizabeth and Gary Siders were previously indicted on June 30 in connection with the rescue of their 16 children. Both face 19 counts of child endangerment, comprising 12 felony counts and seven misdemeanour counts. Christina Siders, married to Gary’s father, faces identical charges following her arrest that same day. Her husband faces 17 counts, having avoided the two most serious felony child endangerment charges. All four defendants have entered not guilty pleas to the initial charges and are currently seeking mental competency evaluations.
Care for Rescued Children and Legal Proceedings
The 16 rescued children remain in county custody, where officials are providing supportive services. The state of Ohio has allocated USD 1 million in emergency funding to Vinton County to assist with their ongoing care and treatment. In subsequent filings, defence attorney Thomas Stolly requested a court-ordered competency evaluation to determine whether Elizabeth "is competent at this time to stand trial to the offenses as charged herein." Stolly also requested a secondary evaluation to assess a potential plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, citing a condition that would produce legal insanity at the time of the alleged offences.
