A 33-year-old Nebraska man faces felony charges after being accused of s*xually assaulting a woman during the early morning hours preceding his wedding. Tyler Webber, 33, has been charged with first-degree s*xual assault and first-degree false imprisonment following an investigation by the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities were first notified of the alleged incident on May 30. Webber has yet to enter a plea regarding the charges.
Details of the Alleged Incident
According to a warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, the alleged victim - who was 18 at the time - stated she was at a residence on the night of May 29 to assist with preparations for the upcoming wedding. She noted that members of the wedding party had been consuming alcohol throughout the evening. The woman reported that she decided to stay at the residence overnight. While attempting to retrieve a blanket from an upstairs area, she told investigators that Webber intercepted her. "He followed her down the stairs and grabbed her by the waist," the affidavit states, noting that as she attempted to pull away, Webber allegedly "pinned her against the stairs, with her back against the stairs." The woman alleged that Webber then s*xually assaulted her on a nearby couch.
Investigation and DNA Evidence
Following the alleged assault, the woman reported the incident to her husband and father, who encouraged her to seek professional medical attention. She subsequently underwent a forensic examination at a hospital, where a s*xual assault kit was administered. On August 4, investigators received a DNA report from the University of Nebraska Medical Center Forensic Department. According to the affidavit, the forensic results confirmed the presence of Webber’s DNA on the victim. "This DNA report from the University of Nebraska Medical Center contradicts Webber’s claim he did not have any se*xual contact with the victim,” the affidavit states. Webber remains the subject of the ongoing legal proceedings in Scotts Bluff County.
