British far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported back to the United Kingdom after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Louisiana, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed. The 41-year-old was arrested on Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport shortly after arriving in the country. According to DHS, Yiannopoulos had entered the US legally in May 2019 but later overstayed his visa, leading to his removal.

An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a scheduled immigration hearing, according to AP News. A DHS spokesperson said he was sent "back to his home country" on Friday, referring to him as an "illegal alien from the United Kingdom" and stating that he had chosen to overstay his welcome in violation of US immigration law, per the BBC‘I Worked for CIA’: Blerim Skoro Faces Deportation After ICE Arrest in New Jersey.

Who Is Milo Yiannopoulos

Yiannopoulos grew up in Kent, England, before rising to prominence in the United States as an editor at the conservative website Breitbart News. He later worked with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and was associated with former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

A vocal supporter of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, Yiannopoulos has backed the administration's hardline immigration policies, previously calling for mass deportations and urging ICE to remove individuals unable to prove legal status in the US. Despite this, he later became openly critical of Trump while continuing to support parts of his broader political agenda. Did ICE Deport Mads Mikkelsen Over JD Vance Meme? Throughout his career, Yiannopoulos has courted controversy over remarks concerning immigrants, Islam, feminism, transgender people and other social issues. In 2017, he resigned from Breitbart and was disinvited from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) after past comments resurfaced regarding relationships between adults and minors. He later apologised, saying he had been referencing his own experiences as a child.

Reaction to His Arrest

News of Yiannopoulos's detention was welcomed by far-right activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer, who has had a public feud with him in the past. Loomer claimed credit for reporting his alleged immigration status and said on social media that he had already been sent back to the UK.
