CryptoCyclone Mandous lay over southwest Bay of Bengal about 240km ESE of Karaikal, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department said the cyclonic storm will move west northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south AP coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with a wind speed of 65-75 kmph around midnight of December 9 to early hours of December 10. The cyclone will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm soon and then weaken gradually and cross the coast, said IMD. The Tamil Nadu government has deployed 12 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State force in 10 districts.
