Multiple news channels and websites on Thursday, June 26, claimed the government is going to impose toll tax on two-wheelers on national highways. Currently, two-wheelers remain exempt from toll charges on national highways. However, there won't be exemption for two-wheelers from July 15, news reports said. As this claim quickly went viral, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways issued a clarification, saying toll tax exemption will continue for two-wheelers. "Some media houses are spreading fake news about levying toll tax on two-wheelers. No such proposal has been made. Two-wheelers will continue to be fully exempt from toll tax," Gadkari confirmed.
