Maha Shivaratri or Maha Shivratri – "the Great Night of Shiva”. The festival is celebrated with great devotion across the world. Maha Shivaratri falls in the Hindu lunar month of Phalguna or Maagha. As per Hindu mythology, it marks the wedding anniversary of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that on this auspicious night, Shiva performed the divine dance of Tandava, symbolizing creation, preservation and destruction. This year, Maha Shivratri will be celebrated on March 8.
