The Election Commission of India (ECI) is conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar where assembly elections will take place this year. As part of the process, citizens have been asked to submit certain documents as proof of being genuine voters. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge claimed the ECI will no longer ask for documents and voters can just submit forms without documents. In his X post on July 6, Kharge also said the ECI revised its guidelines due to increasing political and public pressure. However, the ECI on July 7 termed the claim that no document is required and only filing the form is sufficient, misleading.
