January 12 is celebrated as National Youth Day in honour of Swami Vivekananda, one of India’s most renowned Hindu monk and philosopher. He was credited with interpreting Hinduism that made it more syncretic and also introduced the religion’s ethos to the West. Swami Vivekananda’s speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893 is recognised as one of the most famous speeches by an Indian.
