Paris, May 20: The Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated on Monday afternoon after a man was spotted climbing up the 1,063 ft (324 meters) tall French landmark. "A climber has been spotted. It's the standard procedure: We have to stop the person, and in that case, we evacuate the tower," an official told media, adding that police officials were on the scene. The Eiffel Tower Celebrates Its 130th Anniversary with a Light Show.

The footage of man scaling the tower is going viral on the internet. The tourists were evacuated from the tower after the incident that took place around 2:15 pm local time. According to reports, a man began climbing at the second level, which is approximately 149 meters above the ground level.

The official twitter handle of Eiffel Tower also issued a notice that the tower is closed. It also advised visitors to postpone their visit. "The Eiffel Tower is currently closed until further notice. We kindly advise our visitors to postpone their visit," a tweet in French read.

Meanwhile, The Eiffel Tower, recently celebrated its 130th anniversary. Roughly six million people visit the tower every year. The construction of Paris monument was finished on 31st March 1889, while it inauguration on 15th May 1889, so far 250 million people have visited the most popular landmark in the world.
