New Delhi, February 27: The increasing tension between India and Pakistan reached new levels on Wednesday as several Indian airports were declared closed for security reasons. Several flights have been affected amid the India-Pakistan tensions. Immediately after the Pakistan Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets violated the Indian aerospace in Rajouri Nowshera sector of Rajouri district on Wednesday, the Union government had suspended the civil operations of aircraft from the airports in Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Dharamshala, Chandigarh and Dehradun.

Pakistan also stopped its domestic and international flight operations from Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Islamabad airports. International flights that transit between Indian and Pakistani airspace are now being affected. Some flights are returning, while others appear to be seeking alternate routing. Indigo also tweeted about the change in a flight schedule. "Due to airspace restriction, flights to/from Dehradun (DED) & Jaisalmer (JSA) are affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status," said the tweet.

Pakistani fighter jets on Wednesday reportedly violated Indian airspace in Nowshera sector of Rajouri and Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, said reports. The Pakistani jets were pushed back by Indian aircraft, senior officials said. A Pakistan Air Force (PAK) war jet F-16 was shot down by India, according to reports.
