New Delhi, September 8: India on Sunday announced an immediate disaster relief of $ 1 million to hurricane-hit Bahamas. Raveesh Kumar, Ministry of External Affairs said India is saddened by large scale destruction caused in The Bahamas by Hurricane Dorian. "In solidarity with friendly people of The Bahamas in this difficult moment , Govt of India is extending an immediate disaster relief of $1 million", Kumar said. The death toll in the Bahamas from hurricane Dorian jumped to 43 on Friday. The deadly hurricane hit the Bahamas on September 1 as a Category 5 hurricane causing widespread devastation to the archipelago. Winds of up to 298km/h were reported, which is the highest ever recorded at landfall.  The hurricane battered the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama, in the north of the archipelago, for almost two days. After causing widespread devastation in the Bahamas, the hurricane made a landfall in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia as a post-tropical cyclone.
