The deadly hurricane hit the Bahamas on September 1 as a Category 5 hurricane causing widespread devastation to the archipelago. Winds of up to 298km/h were reported, which is the highest ever recorded at landfall. The hurricane battered the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama, in the north of the archipelago, for almost two days.
