Baltimore, Mar 20: Four days after hundreds of schools across the United States organised the 'March For Our Lives' to press for stricter amendments in gun control laws, another incident of shooting has been reported at a Maryland-based high school.

Reports claimed several people were shot at by a gunman at the Great Mills High School in St Mary's County on Tuesday. At least two students were critically injured in the gunfire, whereas, the armed miscreant was shot dead in retaliatory fire by the police personnel.

The shooter was initially reported to be injured. He, however, succumbed to the injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

St Mary's Sheriff Office, while confirming the incident on Twitter, recommended pedestrians and parents of the wards to remain away from the school's vicinity while the police operation was underway.

The students were evacuated and safely dropped to a nearby school.

After the situation was brought under control, officials from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were sent to the site to initiate probe.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said he was constantly monitoring the situation after the shootout. "Our prayers are with students, school personnel, and first responders," said the statement issued by his office.

On February 14, a deadly shootout was reported at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in Florida, where a miscreant ended up gunning down 17 school children.
