Police said the person of interest departed Ireland in the early hours of Tuesday, before Carney's body was found. Authorities are working with international law enforcement agencies as part of the investigation.

According to RTÉ, investigators believe the individual first arrived in the United Kingdom before travelling to Ireland. Victim Moved to Ireland in 2021
Carney moved from New York to Ireland in 2021 with her young daughter, according to local media. Her LinkedIn profile showed she relocated to work for a healthcare outsourcing company after previously working in the insurance and real estate sectors in the New York metropolitan area.
Her social media profiles described her as a "New Yorker in Ireland" and featured photographs with a man she identified as her partner. In one recent post, she referred to them as a "mixed couple." Police have not confirmed whether the person of interest is the same individual.
The US State Department confirmed that an American citizen died in County Kerry on July 7 and said it is providing consular assistance to Carney's family.
Investigation Continues
The Irish Independent, citing sources, reported that Carney suffered serious head and neck injuries and was found with bedclothes covering her body. The report also said investigators believe she may have attempted to defend herself. Police have not officially released details of the post-mortem findings.
The killing has shocked residents of Killarney, one of Ireland's best-known tourist destinations and a gateway to Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry.
Local councillor Martin Grady, who said he knew Carney personally, described her as "a loving, caring mother" who was "always happy and smiling."
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and appealed for anyone with information relevant to the case to come forward.
