Washington D.C. [USA], July 8 (ANI): American professional basketball player Tyler Honeycutt died at the age of 27 after a police shootout in Los Angeles.

According to E!Online, his death was followed by an exchange of gunfire with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The police department responded to a call regarding a man with a gun in the area of Riverside Drive and Tyrone Avenue in Sherman Oaks, Calif. When the department reached the place, the suspect fired a shot from the aforementioned residence during the initial encounter. The officers then returned fire.

When the SWAT team entered the residence, they found an unresponsive male and pronounced the male dead at the scene. They reported that it appeared to be a self-inflicted injury by a gunshot.

Honeycutt played college basketball for the University of California, Los Angeles Bruins. He later went on to play for the Sacramento Kings for two seasons.

He most recently played for the Russian team BC Khimki, who tweeted their condolences along with EuroLeague Basketball.
