The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a scheduled 24-hour water shutdown beginning tomorrow, Thursday, April 23. The disruption is necessary to facilitate urgent maintenance and pipeline upgradation works within the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) water supply scheme. High-density areas, including Mumbra, Kalwa, and Diva, will be among the primary regions affected by the suspension, which is expected to conclude on the afternoon of Friday, April 24.

According to the official statement issued by the TMC, the water cut will commence at 12:00 PM on Thursday, April 23, and will remain in effect until 12:00 PM on Friday, April 24. The shutdown is required for critical repair and upgrade work on the Barvi Gravity Pipelines, specifically at the reservoir located within the Jambhul Water Treatment Plant. The 24-hour suspension will impact several key pockets across the city. Residents in the following areas should prepare for a complete halt in supply:

  • Mumbra and Diva: Most parts of these regions will face the cut, with the exception of certain pockets in ward numbers 26 and 31.

  • Kalwa: The entire area under this ward committee will be affected.

  • Wagle Estate: Specific locations, including the Kolshet Khalcha Gaon area.

  • Majiwada-Manpada: Select parts of this residential belt will also experience disruptions.

The civic body has cautioned that even after the supply is restored on Friday afternoon, water may be delivered at low pressure for the following 24 to 48 hours as the system regains its normal equilibrium. Thane currently requires approximately 621 million litres of water per day (MLD) to meet the needs of its growing population.
