Washington [US], May 8 (ANI): Fashion's most glamorous night, the 2024 Met Gala held on Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, saw a surprising number of empty spots on the red carpet, as some of Hollywood's brightest stars opted to skip the prestigious event.

Among the notable absences were Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Jared Leto, Billy Porter, and Ben Affleck. Each had their own reason for missing out on the gala, which had the theme 'Garden of Time.'

Selena Gomez, a regular attendee in previous years, was deeply missed by fans. However, the multi-talented star had a valid excuse for her absence.

Sources confirmed to People magazine, that Gomez's hectic schedule, filled with music commitments, managing her Rare Beauty brand, and filming for 'Only Murders in the Building,' left her with no time to grace the Met Gala's red carpet.

Additionally, Gomez is gearing up for a major red-carpet appearance at the Emilia Perez Cannes premiere later in the month.

The actor and musician cited his ongoing tour with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, as the reason for his no-show, as per E! news.

Leto expressed his excitement about being back on the road after a five-year hiatus, with a show scheduled in Krakow, Poland, on May 9.

Similarly, Ben Affleck couldn't accompany his wife Jennifer Lopez to the event due to filming commitments in Los Angeles.

Billy Porter, renowned for his bold fashion choices, chose to prioritize self-care over the glitz and glamour of the Met Gala.

Still mourning the loss of his mother earlier in the year, Porter emphasized the importance of taking care of himself during this difficult time, as per E! News.

Rihanna, another regular attendee known for her show-stopping looks, had plans to grace the Met Gala but was sidelined by the flu, according to her representative.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, who have both made memorable appearances at previous Met Galas, were notably absent as well.

Swift was occupied with her Eras Tour in Europe, while Perry cited work commitments in Los Angeles, debunking rumours fueled by AI-generated images circulating online.

Despite the absence of these A-listers, the 2024 Met Gala was far from lacking in star power.
