General Strike Cripples Life in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 1 (PTI) A 24-hour general strike called to protest against the Framework Agreement signed between the Centre and Naga outfit NSCN(IM) crippled life in Manipur today.
The strike which started at midnight last night was peaceful, Director General of Police L M Khaute said.
The police have made elaborate arrangements to control law and order situation during the general strike jointly called by three organisations, the DGP said.
Buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws were off the road while business establishments and educational institutions were closed, police said.
Attendance in offices were thin.
Road blocks were put up and tyres were burnt on roads during the strike, police said.
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation, the United Committee Manipur and the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak who have jointly called the strike were of the view that the Framework Agreement poses threat to territorial integrity of Manipur.
