Raipur, Jul 22 (PTI) The COVID-19 count in Chhattisgarh increased to 5,968 on Wednesday with addition of 230 cases, including 50 paramilitary personnel, a health official said.
A total of 116 patients were discharged from hospitals in the day following recovery, he said.
"Of the fresh cases, 70 were reported from Raipur district, 36 from Sukma, 28 from Durg, 15 from Kanker, 13 from Janjgir-Champa, 11 from Mungeli, nine each from Bijapur and Raigarh districts.
"Seven cases were reported from Bilaspur, six each from Gariaband and Bastar districts, five from Narayanpur, three each from Bemetara and Mahasamund districts," he said.
Besides, two cases each were reported from Rajnandgaon, Balod and Kondagaon districts while one case each came to light in Surajpur, Surguja and Jashpur districts.
"All the 36 new cases detected in Sukma are from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). These paramilitary personnel were kept in quarantine centres of the district," a police official said.
Among new cases detected in Kanker district, 14 are personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), the health official said.
They were staying in quarantine centres in the district since they returned from their home states from leave, he said.
The CRPF and the BSF are deployed in the state for anti-naxal operations.
The numbers of active cases in the state now stood at 1,709, as 4230 people have been discharged while 29 others have died of the infection so far, the health official said.
The state, where the infection has spread in all the 28 districts, has recorded around 3,700 cases in the last one month, he said.
With total 1,384 cases so far, Raipur district tops the tally in the state, followed by Bilaspur (469), Rajnandgaon (455), Janjgir-Champa (377), Korba (364), Durg (358), Balodabazar (310), Jashpur (212), Surguja (182), Raigarh (175), Balrampur (173), Kanker (163), Narayanpur (150), Mungeli (147), Kabirdham (136), Bemetara (112), Bastar (108) and Mahasamund (104), he said.
