Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 (PTI) Senior BJP leader Samir Mohanty will continue to function as the president of the party's Odisha unit at least till the next elections to Lok Sabha and state Assembly, a party member said on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters, BJP state general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said the party has been performing well in the state under the leadership of Mohanty

Harichandan's statement came hours after the BJP National Executive meeting in Delhi decided to extend tenure of J P Nadda as its national president.
Mohanty's three-year tenure as the state BJP president ended on January 16, 2023. He had taken the charge of the state unit from Basant Panda, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Kalahandi seat in 2019 elections.

Speculation was rife among party workers that the BJP leadership might effect a change of guard in Odisha after the "unsatisfactory" performance in panchayat and urban elections last year.
The party had also lost Padampur assembly bypoll, but managed to clinch Dhamnagar.
According to the BJP constitutions, a party president can hold the post for two consecutive terms of three years each.
