New Delhi [India], October 25 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a plea challenging the ban on diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).

A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih said that the guidelines by NGT cannot be challenged through an interim application in a case pending before the apex court.

The bench refused to entertain the application filed in a pending case saying that any challenge to the guidelines must be brought through separate proceedings.

The top court, therefore, allowed the withdrawal of the application by the applicant and asked to approach the concerned authority regarding the challenge or clarification of the guidelines.

It also said that if the authority passes an adverse order, the applicant will be at liberty to challenge the same in accordance with the law.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued guidelines prohibiting the operation of diesel vehicles over ten years old and petrol vehicles over fifteen years old.

The applicant has challenged the blanket vehicle scrappage policy stating that it mandates the scrapping of vehicles regardless of their fitness or compliance with emission norms. (ANI)
