Bagdogra (West Bengal) [India], October 5 (ANI): The Governor of West Bengal, CV Ananda Bose, arrived in Bagdogra to assess the dire situation caused by flooding in various areas, including Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong.

The floods have wreaked havoc in numerous villages, with the Baghui River inundating many parts of Potashpur in East Medinipur.

The crisis unfolded as incessant rains since Sunday night, combined with heavy rainfall in neighbouring states, led to the release of water from several reservoirs.

This, in turn, caused the Bagui and Keleghai rivers to overflow, affecting multiple villages, including Chakgopal Pradima in Potashpur's 1st block.

Bose said, "The situation is very very disturbing, people have suffered. There is uncertainty even now. We have to see what can be done immediately as a way of relief and also what preventive measures can be taken. Before the floods, during the floods and after the floods there are various things that have to be done ideally."

Governor Bose, during his visit, expressed his deep concern over the situation, emphasizing the need for immediate relief efforts and preventive measures. He stressed the importance of addressing all phases of flood management, from preparation before the floods to response and recovery efforts afterwards.

The situation has prompted residents to abandon their homes, seeking refuge on the streets. Many mud houses have been submerged, roads are underwater, ponds have disappeared, and cultivated lands have been damaged.

In anticipation of worsening conditions, some people have begun relocating to the houses of others or higher ground.

In response, the local administration has set up relief camps to provide shelter and assistance to those affected. However, residents of Potashpur remain concerned about the evolving situation and the potential for further deterioration.

The governor's visit aims to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate relief measures for the affected communities. (ANI)
