Ladakh Earthquake: 3.5-Magnitude Tremor Hits Leh, No Injuries or Damage Reported

An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 struck Ladakh's capital, Leh, early Monday morning, reported the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Sharing details in a post on X, the seismic monitoring agency stated that the tremor occurred at a depth of 120 km at 8:25 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).

Leh , August 24: An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 struck Ladakh's capital, Leh, early Monday morning, reported the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Sharing details in a post on X, the seismic monitoring agency stated that the tremor occurred at a depth of 120 km at 8:25 AM Indian Standard Time (IST). "EQ of M: 3.5, On: 24/08/2026 08:25:07 IST, Lat: 36.700 N, Long: 74.343 E, Depth: 120 Km, Location: Leh, Ladakh," the post read. Hours before the Leh earthquake, Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district was also hit by a mild earthquake of magnitude 3.0 at 3:40 AM on Monday. Providing details about the Chamba quake, the NCS posted, "EQ of M: 3.0, On: 24/08/2026 03:40:19 IST, Lat: 32.925 N, Long: 76.145 E, Depth: 8 Km, Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh." Earlier, an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck the Leh region on Sunday. According to the NCS, Sunday's tremor was recorded at a depth of 150 km at 3:34 PM IST. "EQ of M: 4.6, On: 23/08/2026 15:34:42 IST, Lat: 36.736 N, Long: 74.372 E, Depth: 150 Km, Location: Leh Ladakh, Ladakh," the post read.
